Guest cancellation

Guests may cancel their trip by contacting us thru email or phone and the cancellation is effective immediately.
The total amount refunded will depend on when the guest cancels the trip, and varies by fee component (trip price, trip fee, protection fee, and if applicable, young driver fee). There are no credits/refunds issued for early returns.

The reservation fee is non-refundable once an hour has elapsed from the time the reservation is booked (i.e. when the host confirms the pending trip).

Protection fee

The protection fee is fully refunded if the reservation is cancelled before it starts.

Young driver fee

The young driver fee is fully refunded if the trip is cancelled before it starts.

101 cancellation

If a cancellation was made on our side, we must notify the guest via email or phone as soon as possible, and process the cancellation through the 101 Car Rental website. The cancellation is effective immediately,
and the guest receives a complete refund.

Flight delay or flight cancellation

If a guest’s flight is delayed or canceled, we require guests to reach us out to make us aware of the situation and to request a trip modification for a new start time. In turn, we make a good faith effort to accommodate a new trip start time. New trip start time must be documented in 101 email, phone or website messaging.

If 101 Car Rental cannot or does not accommodate a new start time and the reservation must be canceled, 101 Car Rental will issue a complete refund to guests who miss their reservation as a result of the flight cancellation or delay. Guests must provide supporting documentation, for example a screenshot from the mobile application or website of the airline showing the flight delay, and must notify 101 Car Rental via messaging. In this situation, 101 Car Rental will not receive any compensation and the guest will receive a complete refund, provided the documentation shows the cancellation was due to a flight issue.

To take advantage of this policy, in addition to providing documentation, guests must notify 101 Car Rental of the flight delay or cancellation at least one (1) hour before the scheduled reservation start time. The guest must notify 101 Car Rental of a flight delay or cancellation within at least twenty-four (24) hours after the reservation’s scheduled start time or they will not receive a refund.

In the event 101 Car Rental makes a good faith attempt to reschedule the reservation, but both guest and 101 Car Rental are unable to agree on a satisfactory reservation modification and the reservation must be canceled, 101 Car Rental will charge the guest only for the cost of one (1) day, refunding the remainder.


How old do you have to be to rent a car from 101 Car Rental?

Any drivers over 18 years of age with clean driving records may rent from 101 Car Rental. You must have no DUI convictions, major moving violations, or similar infractions or this will prohibit you from renting with us.

Is auto insurance required?

With the high end types of vehicles that are being rented and the demands of the insurance industry, all drivers renting with 101 Car Rental must carry their own physical damage and liability policies and must make sure to verify with their insurers that coverage is provided for the vehicle they have chosen to rent. We also provide option to purchase an additional damage protection.

Do you rent to international visitors

Yes, vehicles are available to international visitors provided they have a valid passport and driver’s licence from their home country.

Can I add additional drivers if I rent the vehicle?

Yes, additional drivers over the age of 18 may be registered as authorized drivers. We allow a limit of 3 drivers per car. Each driver must have proper auto insurance coverage in order be added.

What services do you provide for Delivery?

We want to make your experience as convenient as possible with delivery and pick-up brought to your front door.
All delivery arrangements must be made 24 hours in advance in order to guarantee you receive your vehicle on-time. If you would like your car delivered to the airport you are arriving at your airline and flight number will be required to ensure you receive a timely delivery. Your car will be waiting for you as you exit the airport. Delivery fees may apply in some cases, please feel free to contact us if you have further questions. Any changes or alterations to delivery or pick-up locations/times with less than 24 hours notice may incur an additional transportation fee.

Do you require a security deposit?

Yes, a damage deposit by authorization of a credit card is preferred in order to rent a vehicle. Damage found on the vehicle when returned will be billed to the authorized credit card. Damage deposits range from $500 – $5,000 also depend on the vehicle being rented and the drivers insurance information. A seven day advance period is required for damage deposits paid by check or cashier’s check. We also accept a cash retainer to be applied to the damage deposit that will be returned at the end of your rental cycle.

Can I cancel my rental at any time?

After a reservation has been made, we authorize your credit card for $500 or 50% of the total rental cost (whichever is greater will be applied). If you reschedule, cancel, or do not show up for your reservation less than 7 days before hand you will be charged 100% of the total rental cost as a cancellation fee. The cancellation fees may be waived (At our sole discretion) for special or unforeseen circumstances (hurricanes, tropical storms, etc.)

What payment methods do you accept?

101 Car Rental prefers VISA, Mastercard, American Express and Discover as method of payment for rental damage deposits and fees. Checks or cashier’s checks may be accepted if presented seven business days in advance. Cash is also accepted.

Can I drive my rented vehicle anywhere?

Rental vehicles may not be driven outside the state of California, without prior written approval.

Is there anything I can’t do once I rent a vehicle?

101 Car Rental policy prohibits vehicles to be used:

  • by anyone without a drivers license or driver’s who have a suspended or restricted license
  • for any illegal purpose or illegal activity
  • for pushing or towing anything
  • to exceed any posted speed limits
  • on any unpaved surface
  • to carry persons or property for hire
  • in any race, rally, speed contest, speed test, speed endurance contest, demonstration, or on or near any racetrack or road course.
  • to teach someone how to drive

If these Prohibited Uses occur, we reserve the right to remotely disable your rental vehicle and retrieve it.

What happens if I get a ticket while driving the car?

The renter is liable for all speeding, traffic, parking, or other tickets or violations issued while the vehicle is in your possession and must pay for any and all penalties, fees, towing charges, or impound costs.

How many miles come with the rental?

We offer 100 free miles per day. Each additional mile comes at a cost of from $0.49 to $3 per mile.

Can my rental be delivered at 8am or 11pm?

Our normal delivery hours are between 8am and 8pm. Any deliveries outside of that time will incur a surcharge of $100 and up. We will do our best to work around your schedule.

Why do you have a 2 hour delivery window?

The 2 hour window is there for circumstances beyond our control (traffic, flat tires, etc). With this window in place there is a better chance of your rental arriving earlier than expected.

Does 101 Car Rentals have hourly rentals?

101 Car Rental does not have hourly rentals. The time that goes into each rental (prep / delivery / pick-up overhead) and the types of vehicles we have are not cost effective for the customer or the company to do hourly rentals.

I only need the car for an hour, could you please accommodate this request?

By renting it to you for the hour (or several) you need it, we are eliminating the possibility that we can rent the car to another customer. The car will be out for a full day regardless. So we must charge for a full day.

Can I rent for one day on the weekend?

No. Due to a huge demand for weekend rentals, we aren’t able to offer a one-day rental on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Similar to the question about hourly rentals, if we guarantee it to you for a day, we are unable to fill requests for 2 days, which is higher in demand for weekends.
If the rental is a “must-have” for your wedding/anniversary/surprise gift, which falls on a weekend, getting yourself a guaranteed 100% reservation is to rent for a full weekend (Friday-Sunday, 48 hours).
We do offer “non-guaranteed” one-day rentals on weekends on a stand-by basis only. So on Saturday morning if the vehicle you want is still available, we’ll gladly rent it to you same-day for just that day.

Can I cancel if there is a death in the family?

101 Car Rental realizes that matters of this nature happen and we are sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, when someone calls to cancel a rental, there’s a good chance that they use the “death-in-the-family” excuse with us. Because there are a lot of people out there who use this excuse the same cancellation policies apply as above.

Does my own insurance cover the rental of a Lamborghini if the car I drive is a Ford Focus?!

Yes. In all 50 states, if you carry full-coverage insurance (Liability, Comp, and Collision) your insurance will automatically carry over and cover a rental from us – regardless of what you drive or what you rent.

I’m under 18 and need a nice rental for prom, can my uncle/father/mother/sister rent it for me?

No. Our current policies prohibit vehicles being rented out for situations that may pass said vehicle to someone that does not fit rental criteria.

If I pay cash, do I still have to pay sales tax? If so, How much?

Yes. The California’s current tax rate will be applied.

We don’t own any of our cars. We are car sharing company where you can rent a car from reliable owners with professional service from us.
